Pool Rules & Policies
Sign in with life guard. This facility is for the use of HDCPA Stockholders and Annual Members. Misrepresenting yourself or a guest is considered trespassing.
Be kind, caring and respectful. Heather Downs is a family friendly community pool.

No offensive language…if you wouldn’t say it to your school’s Principal, don’t say it here.

No running, pushing, dunking, fake calls for help or rough play.

Be respectful of all swimmers.
Adult Swim is at the top of each hour for 15 minutes. During the first 5 minutes of Adult Swim ice cream treats are for sale in the picnic area. No children under age 18 in the pool during adult swim. If children prefer to wait near the edge of the pool, they must keep their bottoms on the pool deck. (not on steps, diving board, or slipping in) Children are encouraged to use
the rest rooms during this time.
Diving: Keep your head safe!

Diving area must be clear (between two ladders and board)

No diving in the shallow end

Only 1 person on the diving board at a time

Only 1 bounce per jump

No back flips
Rope: Refrain from touching the rope.
Bikes: Use the rack and use a kickstand. Keep your bike safe and lock it. Keep the sidewalk clear at all times. HDCPA is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Chaise Lounges: for adult use only during periods of peak pool usage. Kids – leave your towel on the wooden benches.
Children: All children under 8 using the adult pool must have a parent or competent sitter (at least 12 yrs old) present at the pool at all times.
Unaccompanied children: Children 8 years or older, may with parents’ permission, come to the pool unaccompanied on the following conditions:

They are a strong swimmer: able to swim two widths of the pool and tread water for 2 minutes. Testing will be done at the discretion of the guard.

They are respectful and follow all pool rules.
Disciplinary Procedures:

When rules are broken, children will be given a warning. At the guard’s discretion, they may be suspended for up to 3 days. Children will be required to call a parent and explain why they have been asked to leave and to let them know they are coming home.

If a child is sent home on 3 occasions, they will be required come before the HDCPA board, or appropriate committee. The board has the right to make suspensions of any length. No refunds will be made.
Guests: No guest will be allowed to use the pool without a sponsoring member present. Guest passes are required. Complementary guest passes are given to all members at the beginning of each year. Additional passes may be purchased from the life guards. Passes are valid for the current season only. Guests must sign in and are limited to 5 visits per summer.
Babysitters: Nannies and babysitters will not need a guest pass but must sign in.
Wading Pool:

No lifeguard on duty!

Every child using the wading pool must be at ALL times be accompanied by a parent or competent sitter (at least 12 yrs old) inside the wading pool area.

Wading pool is for children under 8 years of age.

Swim diaper covered with rubber pants required.
Pool toys: may be used at the discretion of the guard on duty. No smacking, fighting, or destroying noodles.
Food and drinks: all food and drinks, other than water, should be confined to the picnic area. No glass or breakable or hazardous materials in the swimming pool enclosure.
No Smoking
You break it, you bought it. The cost of any property damage to the pool or its grounds, willfully or negligently incurred, will be charged to the family responsible.
Lost & Found: all unclaimed clothing, towels, and miscellaneous items will be hung on hooks. Unclaimed items will be disposed of by the Pool board as deemed appropriate.
Additional Heath Department Requirements:

Not feeling well…stay home. (No infectious or communicable diseases such as a cold, skin eruption, or open blister)

Wear a clean swim suit…no cut offs or street clothes.

Keep the pool clean….don’t spit in, or otherwise pollute, swimming pool water.

Keep ‘Happy Hour’ at home. No alcohol is allowed. Warning: swimming after the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited and could result in near drowning, and in some cases, death.

Keep animals at home: The only animals allowed at the pool are a trained guide dog accompanying a person who has a disability. They are not allowed in the swimming pool enclosure or in the pool.
